BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Family and friends are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Austin Joseph Haake, 31, of St. Louis, Missouri, who tragically passed away following an automobile accident on August 27, 2026.
Austin’s sudden death has left those who knew and loved him struggling to comprehend a loss that came far too soon. Friends and family have described the pain of losing him as overwhelming while asking for prayers and support for his mother, Lisa, and his two sisters during this difficult time.
Born on January 23, 1995, in Huntingburg, Austin was the son of Henry and Lisa (Knies) Haake. He graduated from Forest Park High School with the Class of 2013 and later earned his degree from Purdue University in 2017.
Austin built a career in construction management, working as a field engineer. His professional path allowed him to live and work in different parts of the United States, creating experiences and memories along the way.
Outside his career, Austin had a genuine passion for motorcycles. He loved riding and also enjoyed working on his bike. Music was another important part of his life, and he found enjoyment in attending concerts, listening to music, and collecting vinyl records.
Austin also valued an active lifestyle. He enjoyed working out, weightlifting, and spending time outdoors. Those close to him remember his carefree personality and kind heart, qualities that were reflected in the way he interacted with family, friends, and others.
Above all, Austin was deeply connected to the people he loved. His family remembers him not simply through his accomplishments and interests, but through the everyday moments, conversations, laughter, and experiences they shared together.
Austin is survived by his mother, Lisa Haake of Ferdinand; his sisters, Athena (Neal) Goffinet of Littleton, Colorado, and Aliya Haake of St. Louis, Missouri; niece Margot Goffinet; nephew Leo Goffinet; and girlfriend Jill Roberts of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Haake; paternal grandparents J. Roy and Sally Haake; and maternal grandparents Linus and Margaret Knies.
The news of Austin’s passing has brought profound sadness to his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His loved ones are now holding onto the memories of his adventurous spirit, kindness, humor, and love for the people and activities that made his life meaningful.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Austin Joseph Haake was only 31, but he lived a life filled with family, friendship, work, music, motorcycles, adventure, and countless memories. Though his life was tragically cut short, the impact he made on those around him will not be forgotten.
